Security Camera FAQs

We address some of our most frequently asked questions when it comes to security camera systems.

HOW MANY CAMERAS DO I NEED?

We can help you determine how many security cameras you need based upon your home or business premises. Every building varies in shape and size and this will determine the amount of security cameras you will require to achieve your security results.

CAN I VIEW SECURITY CAMERAS REMOTELY?

All our supplied and installed security cameras come with connectivity to phones/tablets. We will also help you setup the phone/tablet and provide training.

DO THE SECURITY CAMERAS WORK IN THE DARK?

All our supplied cameras come with IR (infrared) which enables the camera to operate in night.

WHAT IS A FULL COLOUR OR COLOURVU CAMERA?

Full colour or colourvu cameras captures vivid colour, even in low-light conditions. It effectively extracts the colour features of a scene, be it human, vehicle or details providing greater detail and viewing experience. In addition to delivering full colour 24 hours a day, a full colour turret camera have additional AI functions to further enhance the probability and accuracy of target recognition and feature extraction.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN SECURITY CAMERA SERVICING?

When we arrive to your property we will perform the following tasks:

  • Clean all security camera lens, clean and remove insects or spider webs nearby.
  • Inspect security cameras for any damage and advise.
  • Check security camera programming and make any corrections
  • Check security camera and NVR passwords and increase password security if required
  • Check NVR hard drive health and advise any issues

What happens if there is a power outage?

The NVR will shut off during a power outage and there will no recorded footage during this time. When the power is restored, the NVR and security cameras will automatically turn back on and start recording.

We suggest an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) which provides a period of backup power and also can serve as a surge protection device. This ensures your security camera system will still be online in the event of power loss.

Can I record audio?

Yes. Please advise us of audio recording requirements and we will select security cameras with built in microphones. Commercial premises with public spaces will need to display a sign alerting the public that they are being audio recorded. We can supply these signs by request. Private spaces such as homes do not require a sign.

HOW MANY HOURS OF FOOTAGE CAN BE RECORDED?

The length of archived footage on a NVR is impacted by many variables. Firstly, the number of cameras on the NVR reduce the amount of archiving footage. The scene of each camera also influences the archiving space. A camera with little activity (movement, direct lighting) will require less storage then a camera with heavy activity (watching traffic, lighting levels). Frame rate also plays a role in archiving storage, a camera with less frame rate increases the archiving storage at the cost of jumpy playback and distorted still images. A security camera with a high frame will smooth out movement and still images but will greatly increase storage requirements.

We design our security camera packages and solutions based off these requirements. We also custom program each camera for its designed purpose. Contact us for queries regarding storage and we can calculate how much storage will be required.
